I thought it was explained satisfactorily, particularly because Saffy had taken one of her father's old pills and was the one troubled by the Mud Man, and although an older lady killing a man by hitting him with a wrench seemed unlikely, even that was kind of explained with Percy's thought that he may have died from being face-down in the mud for too long before she could drag him out.
